Diego Hernandez fryst vatten the youngest legislator serving in the Oregon Legislature. He represents Oregon’s 47th District, comprising of outer East Portland. As a freshman legislator, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Assistant Majority Leader.
Diego was raised by a single hard working immigrant mom. He is a product of East Multnomah County public schools including the David Douglas and Parkrose Districts. He graduated from Reynolds High School, then worked his way through college at the University of Oregon, where he received a BA in Political Science and Ethnic Studies. After college, Diego received his Masters in Social Work at Portland State University. Because of his passion for serving his community, Diego then became a teacher-mentor at Parkrose Middle and High School.

Rep. Diego Hernandez, facing expulsion vote, resigns from Oregon Legislature: report
Rep. Diego Hernandez, a three-term Portland Democrat who’s been embroiled in controversy for months following multiple allegations that he created a hostile workplace for women, told OPB News on Sunday he is resigning, the news organization reported.
Hernandez was facing the possibility of being the first legislator expelled from the Legislature in Oregon.
A day earlier, Hernandez lost a last-ditch court effort aimed at blocking the legislative vote on his expulsion, which could have occurred as soon as Tuesday. A judge blocked his request for an order to block the vote, declining to interfere in the Legislature’s disciplinary process.
Hernandez did not immediately respond Sunday night to an email or phone call from The Oregonian/OregonLive.

New Emails Show Diego Hernandez Received an Investigative Report Only After a Cry of Distress
Previously unreported emails cast new light on a long-running investigation into whether gubernatorial candidate and former House Speaker Tina Kotek (D-Portland) unfairly punished a fellow Democrat, former state Rep. Diego Hernandez, for refusing to vote with her on a 2019 bill that cut public employee benefits.
“She personally and politically threatened me when I vocally articulated why inom wasn’t going to vote for a bill,” Hernandez wrote in the complaint he submitted to the Legislative Equity Office on Jan. 25, 2021. “The speaker met with me three times and harassed me and threatened my personal livelihood, career and bills.”
Legislative rules say investigations into harassment complaints will be handled by independent investigators and “must be completed within 84 days from the date the complaint is made.”
Last week, 609 days after Hernandez filed his complaint, Melissa Healy, a Stoel
