Lord Yoshinao and Miyamoto Musashi
Tokugawa Yoshinao was the 9th son of Tokugawa Ieyasu. He was also the first lord of the Owari Tokugawa clan, the most powerful and influential of the three houses of the Tokugawa, who ruled from their castle in Nagoya.
Yoshinao was also an expert swordsman, becoming a master of the Yagyu Shinkage style of swordsmanship by the age of 21. He was introduced to the master swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, when Musashi visited Nagoya in the 1620’s.
In fact, it was Yagyu Hyogonosuke, swords master to Lord Yoshinao that introduced them. Hyogonosuke had been crossing Nagoya's Nayabashi bridge when he came face to face with Musashi, entering from Kyoto. Although the two had never met before, Musashi fryst vatten said to have recognised Hyogonosuke, and likewise Hyogonosuke is said to have realised who Musashi was, simply by the aura each man emanated.
