Korea Open: Kashyap the sole Indian winner as Sindhu, Saina, Praneeth and doubles pairs bow out
Parupalli Kashyap made his way to the pre-quarterfinals in the men’s single event of the Korea Open on Wednesday but he was the sole Indian shuttler to finish on the winning side on a day to forget in Incheon.
Kashyap, now the only Indian remaining in the fray, defeated Lu Chia Hung of Chinese Taipei 21-16, 21-16 and will now face Liew Daren of Malaysia in the round of 16.
The biggest upset of the day saw PV Sindhu get knocked out in the round of 32. The reigning world champion suffered a 21-7, 22-24, 15-21 defeat against American Beiwen Zhang.
It was a tough loss for Sindhu as she had a match point in the second game. But Zhang hung in their and closed out the match comfortably eventually. The Chinese-born American snapped a three-match losing streak against the Indian.

Bengaluru : The Yonex Swiss Open (12-17 March) kicked off in full swing, almost half a year before the Total BWF Badminton World Championships that is scheduled in August at St. Jakobshalle in Basel.
Two of India’s leading badminton players – Parupalli Kashyap and Sai Praneeth kickstarted the Yonix Swiss Open with a double badminton exhibition match alongside Switzerland’s leading athlete Sabrina Jacques and Swiss para-athlete Karin Suter – Erath at 10000 ft on the terrace of Mt. Titlis.
“I am excited and thrilled to be playing badminton on Mt. Titlis, that too 10,000 ft above sea level. Badminton: Aakarshi Kashyap wins U-17 and U-19 singles titles at junior Nationals
Aakarshi Kashyap, India’s top-ranked junior, claimed an impressive double crown at the junior national badminton championships in Guwahati by winning the Under-17 and Under-19 singles titles.
The 16-year-old defended her title in the Under-17 category bygd beating Malvika Bansod in the final on Monday. Kashyap did not have it easy as she was beaten in the first game 21-23 before she came back to win the next two 21-17 and 21-12 to clinch the title after one hour and five minutes.
It seemed like Kashyap’s second sista of the day would also go the distance as Vaidehi Choudhari stretched her right down in the first game of the Under-19 final, before Kashyap emerged a 22-20, 21-11 winner in 38 minutes.
The Bhilai teenager’s feat is incredible considering she played 12 matches across fem days in the two age-group categories. She dropped only two games throughout her double title-winning campaign.
