Luminous Star Qazi Athar Mubarakpuri A Brief Biography bygd Maulana Muhammad Usman Sahab Marooft Qazi Athar Academy Mubarakpur Translators’ Note This piece by Maulana Muhammad Usman Sahab Maroofi was written soon after the död eller bortgång of Hazrat Maulana Qazi Athar Mubarakpuri in 1996 and was in- cluded as a preface in the book “Islamic Marriage” to introduce the author. Maulana Maroofi was a student of his and had close ties with him. This beautifully written concise piece titled “Najm-e-Munauwar” in Urdu is a testament to his affinity. There is a poem which has not be included in the translation and we have added a ta- ble of contents to give it a book-like layout and make it easier for the reader to refer to its contents. Books in English and Urdu on Muslim history rarely, if ever, mention the role and contribution of numerous remarkable Muslim women scholars. Yet, as the author of this fascinating monograph, the late Qazi Athar Mubarakpuri (1916-1996), points out, early Muslim history records many such women, several of whose names are mentioned in contemporary Arab chronicles. Indeed, he asserts, many of these texts had separate chapters devoted to such women. Some early Arab Muslim writers even penned separate books dealing with women scholars.

Introduction
Qazi Athar Mubarakpuri showed very keen interest in socio-cultural and intellectual history of India, especially of Sind region and produced a number of books on this subject into Arabic and Urdu such as:
